Churchill opens capital solutions arm with TIAA seed and two senior hires
Noah Charney joins from King Street to lead the strategy, with Robin Russell hired alongside him.
Churchill Asset Management launched a capital solutions strategy on 12 August, seeded with a capital commitment from its parent, TIAA, and appointed Noah Charney as managing director and head of capital solutions.
The strategy provides customised financing for private equity sponsor-backed middle market companies that need more structuring flexibility than a standard facility allows. It will invest primarily in senior secured opportunities while selectively using junior capital, supporting balance sheet optimisation, complex buyouts, add-on acquisitions and maturity extensions.
The TIAA commitment matters more than the usual parental endorsement. A capital solutions book depends on being able to commit quickly and hold bespoke, less liquid structures; seed capital from an insurance balance sheet supplies both, and removes the need to raise a first fund before writing a first cheque.
