Mercer names Deborah Wardle international investment chief
Mercer on 22 July appointed Deborah Wardle to lead its international investment leadership, in a move that also completes a wider reshaping of the consultant’s investment bench. Wardle will report to Mercer global chief investment officer Niall O’Sullivan and remain based in London.
The new role covers Mercer’s international investment leadership and replaces Garvan McCarthy, who continues as global alternatives chief investment officer. Mercer said the appointment takes effect immediately.
The move sits alongside a broader leadership buildout that has seen Hooman Kaveh move into the newly created role of Executive Chair for Mercer’s Investment Platform from 1 May 2026, after serving as global CIO. Mercer said Kaveh will continue to chair the Investment Governance Committee, while O’Sullivan will lead the full range of investment capabilities and all asset class teams will report to him.
Mercer said the new structure is intended to support global alternatives, multi-asset portfolio construction, dynamic asset allocation and large, complex investment mandates through its Investment Partnerships Group. It has also linked the changes to outcome-focused solutions, private-markets access and broader investment capability across single-asset and total-portfolios.
the consultant said the leadership changes are meant to accelerate client impact, and they follow earlier rounds of senior appointments across geographies and business units. Mercer is a business of Marsh McLennan.
