Sun Life pairs with Wilton Re to launch $10bn reinsurer
The venture is expected to launch in the first half of 2027.
Sun Life Financial and Wilton Re on 25 August agreed to create Windsor Life Re, a Wilton-managed U.S. and Bermuda-domiciled affiliated reinsurer that is expected to manage up to $10bn, with SLC Management as lead asset manager.
The arrangement gives Sun Life a route to place SLC Management on third-party reinsurance assets without announcing a direct balance-sheet transaction by Sun Life itself, because Wilton Re will form and manage the vehicle while SLC Management will run the assets.
Windsor Life Re is not starting as an unfunded platform for future business alone. It is due to reinsure an initial in-force block of about $1.7bn from Wilton Re, which means the vehicle launches with transferred liabilities against a platform expected to manage up to $10bn.
