Aviva profit falls 49% to £418m as remittances and dividend climb
Cash remittances rose 47% to £1,498m and the interim dividend was lifted to 14.0p.
Aviva reported IFRS profit of £418m for the first half of 2026, down 49% from £819m a year earlier, even as capital generation, returns and shareholder distributions all strengthened.
Cash remittances rose 47% to £1,498m, from £1,022m in the first half of 2025. The interim dividend was raised 7% to 14.0p per share, from 13.1p. IFRS return on equity improved to 20.3%, from 18.2% a year earlier.
The divergence between Aviva's operating performance and its falling statutory profit suggests Aviva's underlying businesses improved while market-related items depressed IFRS earnings. The higher payout indicates Aviva did not let the weaker statutory result interrupt its distribution trajectory.
