EIOPA today published its sustainable finance activities plan for 2022‑2024, setting out supervisory priorities for (re)insurers and occupational pension funds on integrating sustainability risks, dated 7 December 2021.
The document confirms five key areas of activity, including priorities on sustainability disclosures, ESG integration in prudential rules, and macro‑ and micro‑prudential assessment of ESG risks. EIOPA said these priorities build on its sustainable finance deliverables developed since 2018. The authority added that the programme reflects the priorities in the EU Commission’s Strategy for Financing the Transition to a Sustainable Economy and the EU Climate Adaptation Strategy, as well as recent regulatory initiatives.
EIOPA stated that its overarching aim is to ensure that (re)insurers and occupational pension funds integrate sustainability risks into their risk management in order to protect consumers and secure financial stability. The activities are framed as part of a broader need for global action to enable progress on the transition to a more sustainable economy.
