EIOPA calls for checks on alternative assets at PE-backed insurers
The authority also wants scrutiny of investment conflicts, reinsurance arrangements and borrowing used to finance acquisitions.
EIOPA has asked national supervisors to examine how insurers linked to private equity value their alternative assets and account for the risks. The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority published its supervisory statement on 6 October. Its investment checks cover valuation, solvency capital and asset-liability management where alternative or illiquid holdings are material.
