About 55 pension funds and APF compartments intend to convert after 1 January 2027, and two-thirds of all funds and compartments are expected to have converted by that date, De Nederlandsche Bank said in a sector bulletin on 3 September. The statutory transition period ends on 1 January 2028, and DNB said in the same bulletin it will press for the remaining conversion assessments to be completed at least six months before the intended conversion date, with funds converting on that date due to receive the decision on their conversion notification by 1 July 2027.

A total of 34 pension funds had converted at the reference date of 30 June 2026, with €1,131 billion of the sector’s €1,720 billion in assets still held by funds that had not yet converted, DNB said in its quarterly release of 28 July. DNB had more than fifty conversion notifications under assessment and expected more than forty further this year, its 20 July transition bulletin said.

DNB’s spring financial stability report, published on 26 May, put Dutch pension funds’ holdings of interest rate swaps beyond 25 years at approximately €88 billion at year-end 2025, around 25% of the European market volume. The same 26 May report recorded that converting funds had bought relatively large amounts of short-dated interest rate swaps, giving no euro figure for that flow. DNB’s October 2025 background analysis on the new pension contract set that position against €900 billion outstanding in (semi-)government bonds at maturities of 25 years and longer and a net swap position of over €300 billion.
